I am a college adjunct faculty English teacher and I wanted a simple edition with notes for my class to read in the fall. I was going to order 20 of these for the class, but I am so glad I first bought one for myself. The paper edition doesn't have any spaces between the speakers, either, so it is difficult to read, even if it were written in language my students, mostly college freshmen, could easily understand. They would give up on this edition. Also, there are absolutely NO NOTES for students that define and explain some of the more obscure vocabulary and written expressions. The text underneath this edition on Amazon did NOT say that there were no notes. It is not helpful AT ALL for a new reader of Shakespeare or a reader who only read it in high school unwillingly. I am going to order something else for my class.

As noted by other reviewers, this edition provides but a fraction of what it promises. There are no annotations, no photographs â€” a historical impossibility of monumental absurdity â€” of the author, nor any of the other promised features. Beyond that, it does not even include a dramatis personnae, a hallowed standard for any dramatic work. Even the ratings provided by Kindle were for other Shakespeare plays. ... Is there no quality control for works published by Kindle? This was such a sham that it makes me very leery about future purchases from Kindle, especially for editions with which I am not familiar.

This is probably the worst book I've ever received. Characters are not marked. There is no formatting. It is just a wall of text. Don't buy this. Get a different copy of this play.

As an English teacher, teaching Shakespeare can be quite a challenge. For modern students, trying to connect the concepts, theme, and setting of Romeo and Juliet can be quite a challenge. Keeping them engaged in the struggle of Shakespearean language is even more so. This version of the play is accurate and most importantly, entertaining. We, as a class, will read a portion of the play and then I will show this film to help cement ideas, dialogue, and characters. The students love the film, laugh, and respond better to the play than without!

When I saw Romeo & Juliet in the theatre -- on its opening weekend -- after the film in the lobby I saw dozens of teenaged girls sobbing in each other's arms. I've never seen anything like that before or since. That alone marks the film as a masterpiece, and nothing any critic can say is relevant next to that emotional reaction. Those sobbing teenagers are absolute proof that any critic who panned this film is a fool.Di'Caprio wasn't very famous at that point (though I believe he'd already been nominated for an oscar for an indy film). Later that night, I had dinner with friends and predicted that this boy would become the biggest star in Hollywood -- by tomorrow! I was off by a couple of years. Rare in film history has there been such a perfect casting -- Leonardo DiCaprio as Romeo. The mythical balcony scene is freshly designed and executed wonderfully, bringing the myth to life before our eyes. But the crowning glory and superpower of this film is the 'love at first sight' scene - ironic in that there are no words spoken (words being Shakespeare's superpower). It's all done with the eyes by the two young genius actors, combined with inspired camera work and the devastating vocal performance of Des'ree. This is one of the most beautiful, greatest, and most powerful scenes in cinematic history.What is this emotion -- love at first sight? It might only happen two or three times in our entire lives. It isn't real love. So is it just trivial, adolescent silliness? I think it is much more than that -- and so did Shakespeare. What is our emotional relationship with our desires that can never be? We're haunted forever by the impossiblity of perfect love as much as we were ever thrilled by the fantasy of it. Baz Luhrmann's 'Romeo & Juliet' taps deeply into the impossible longings that never leave us. It is a masterpiece.

I did not want to see this movie for years after its release. I consider myself a purist where the Bard of Avon is concerned. I adored the films Henry V & Much Ado About Nothing, both directed and starring Kenneth Branaugh, Richard III starring and directed by Olivier. Period costumes, true to Shakespeare's lines, etc. I began to change when I realized (fairly early on in watching it) that 10 Things I Hate About You, was a delightful retelling of The Taming Of The Shrew. Eventually I watched this and found a gem. From the factions portrayed as rival gangs, to the outstanding delivery of the lines. The true crowning jewel is the over the top performance by the inimitable John Leguizamo. As Tibalt, John is amazing.

Damage Control is a well written, practical book for organizations that may be faced with a crisis. The authors have done an excellent job covering the issues and providing practical solutions. The stories from the trenches of defending corporate America are very interesting, too. The only shortcoming of the book is the huge extent to which the authors have swallowed their own propaganda about how multinational corporations are persecuted at the hands of big, bad consumer activists and the media. It's clear where their money and experience have come from, which is fine, but don't expect readers to start shedding tears for oppressed corporations.

A concise set of thoughts laid down on modern crisis management by two informed participants. While the authors sometimes drift close to self-promotion, it is a worthy book to read by corporate managers and others who may ever face an adverse high-profile media issue.It is definitely better to read this short book than the standard three-ring binder--usually quite dusty--jammed with a given corporation's formal crisis plan.For one reader who has had direct experience with such things (the Alar chemical scare involving apples), the key points of advice all ring true.

This excellent book says that today's crisis management is fixated on making nice with those who would harm you and it is wrong, wrong,wrong. Yes, J and J did a great job with the Tylenol tampering but it was a victim of a nut. The template of what they did does not work, or so Dezenhall argues, with a crisis where you have an enemy. What to do? Figure out of the company has a backbone to fight(if not. throw in the towel); preach to the choir(rally your allies); manage the media(Wendy's told the media you can interview our execs but stop showing the finger); and, above all.like all good trial lawyers know, come up with an alternate belief system, a plausible and different scenario for what occured; don't use the default of apology when you have nothing to apologize for.(a la pepsi and the purported syrgines in the pepsi cans. The book is direct, well written, and short.

Eric Dezenhall is not only experienced in counseling on crisies at very high levels of company and peformance-art; he is an accomplished writer who lays it out in practical and engaging terms. This book--Damage Control--is real-world insight, with guidance useful to any corporate or organizational leadership team. I am using it as text for the graduate course on Corporate Crisis Communication at Georgetown University.

As a crisis- and issue-managemt consultant, I've read literally hundreds of books on the subject, in addition to working scores of crisis and issues for organizations, providing training and developing graduate curriculum on the topic. This book is by far my favorite for managing the court of public opinion and the media-relations aspect of crisis communication. I recommend it to leaders regularly.

This book truly educated me on crisis concepts. It changed my thinking and gave me insights on the topic that only a seasoned crisis manager would know. I liked it so much I even downloaded the audio version to listen in my car.

Loved this book. This was my textbook for my graduate class: Crisis Comm. It was really interesting. Plus, it was easy to read and had funny portions. I had the pleasure of meeting Eric Dezenhall as a guest lecturer and he was really amazing. He had so many good pointers and additional advice. I hear he may be writing a second edition. Lets hope so!

About the Author

Ted Brewer, a lifelong sailor with more than 230 yacht designs to his credit, has worked on Gold Cup and Olympic medal - winning 5.5-meter designs, on the America's Cup defender Weatherly, and on numerous successful motor yachts, ocean racers, and production boats. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, with Bob Wallstrom, he produced more than 100 custom and production designs, from 21-foot catboats to the exquisite 62-foot charter ketch Traveller III. His better-known production designs include the Whitby 42, the Aloha 28 and 34, the Cabot 36, and the Morgan 38. In the early 1970s he originated the much copied radius-bilge method of building metal yachts. Brewer's more recent designs include a sailing dinghy, a 45-foot Boston pilot schooner, the 68-foot schooner Tree of Life (named by SAIL magazine as one of the "100 Greatest Yachts in America"), and the 60-foot BOC around-the-world racer Wild Thing. He is author of two other books, Cruising Yacht Design and Ted Brewer Explains Sailboat Design (International Marine, 1985), and a contributor to SAIL, Cruising World, Motor Boating & Sailing, and Great Lakes Sailor, among other magazines. orty years ago I stupidly sold my last boat. I have missed it every day since. It was my sixth and best boat, a Chrysler Lonestar. Three of these six boats I built myself, one I shared the work with my father. Building a plywood boat is a bagatelle particularly using the stitch and glue method. The seventh boat is built by this method. In the process I have bought six books from Amazon though all of the information that I needed was free on the internet. The books are â€œGo Build Your Own Boatâ€ and Build The New Instant Boat by Harold Payson, â€œBoats with an open Mindâ€ by Philip Bolger, â€œBoat Building For Beginnersâ€ by Jim Michalak, â€œUltra Simple Boat Buildingâ€ by Gavin Atkin and â€œUnderstanding Boat Designâ€ by Ted Brewer There are separate reviews for each of these books.â€œUnderstanding Boat Designâ€ by Ted Brewer was a something of a disappointment. I give it three stars. I found it unhelpful, as the cover stated, for the â€œamateur builder.â€ A suitable amateur project boat apparently does not interest the author. Brewer is a big boat guy. If I am wrong then he should read, for inspiration, the other five books mentioned above. I have seen an example of his Cape Cod Cat and it is a wonderful boat. I wish I had one but I would not attempt to build it myself. It is not, as stated, a boat for the amateur builder unless that builder is equipped to handle 1800 pounds of ballast, a hell of a lot of construction, has many devoted helpful friends and a lot of heavy equipment. I seriously doubt that it could be sailed safely single handed. If he is serious about a boat for the amateur he should bend his mind to a smaller, lighter Cat with a much smaller sail. He could have included information about his sailing dinghy in this book. Brewer is obviously a very knowledgeable person and if he had tried a little harder this could be a great book. It is very thin (144 pages) and at least one third is filler material including a reproduction of a Coast Guard document and brochure write ups about Brewer's designs. There are three pages for the amateur boat builder which are nearly worthless. The remainder is very general information. Amazingly my copy was a 4th edition. I wish I could get my money back.

Excellent overview of design from an excellent designer. Takes concepts and goes from simple to a detailed level.

Easy to follow book for beginners. Has many different types of boats as well as descriptions. I am new to the idea of boat building and this was very easy to follow and learn all the different types/parts.

The book was ordered to help me to design a simple one-design sailboat. I wanted to be sure that I was using the appropriate portions of power to size, sizing & design of rudders 7 keels and lots of other appropriate design elements. The book does contain a lot of design related definitions and some very useful formulas. However the book did not cover all that I was personally looking for. The book is just a primer to boat design definitions and if you are like me, you will need more than just this book alone to get required design formulas.

This is not what I hoped it would be. As others have noted, it's a glossary of terms. I wanted something that would help introduce this subject to my children, but presenting a bunch of terms isn't what I was aiming for. Perhaps would be better for older students who are struggling to grasp a particular concept, but isn't appropriate as an introductory text for younger learners.

Excellent book for elementary schools kids.. ..just enough information to get them interested and get a dialogue going. This will not bore them down. A must have for parents for night time readings.. short and sweet...but be ready for Q&A from the kids.

we found our 1st Basher book in Ho Chi Minh City airport 2 years ago & bought it for our son to take on holiday. Boy, he loved it so much we have bought almost every other book ever written in the series because not only does he love them, but also his little sister! They are now 8 & 10 years old and have so much fun while they learn...we thoroughly recommend all of these great little books.

These are the best, collecting them all!

My 6 year old daughter loves this book. She always is asking questions about how our bodies work. This book is very informative but the content isn't too difficult for her to understand. My 4 year old even likes this book.

I came across one of the books in this series in the gift shop at the Franklin Museum and thought it would be great for my son who just started college. He has some tough classes that require a lot of memorization and these books are perfect for that... takes tough topics and breaks them down into terms easier to understand. They have great visuals too. Ended up buying 3 of them "The Period Table", "Chemistry" and "The Human Body". His study partner loved them and I bought a set for her too. Great books!

Excellent little story for your little ones to read before visiting an aquarium or sea park. Little Critter and his classmates take a field trip to the aquarium to learn about sea life. The visuals are all very well done just like all the other Mercer Mayer stories. The kids see all the fish and normal attractions you would find at most aquariums. It is a nice little story and our daughter gets excited when we pick it out to read. Although I have never heard of a restaurant that sells a "swordfish burger" sounds intriguing. Our favorite part of the story is when Little Critter is daydreaming about snorkeling in the sea and finding a real octopus out in the wild.The bright colorful illustrations make it easy for our daughter to follow the story and stay focused.We bought this story book along with the Berenstain Bears at the Aquarium. To show our 5 year old daughter what she would see at Sea World on our vacation. Both books are around the same price and tell the same story. I always liked the animation in the Mercer Mayer stories a little more than the Berenstain Bears. You might want to check both books out at your local library before purchasing the one you like best.If you are trying to teach your little guys about fish this is a nice book to star with. I would rate it 4 stars.

My son is 6 and a beginner reader. This is a great book for other kids at the same level. It is easy to read but has some more complicated words that are not impossible to pronounce. The pictures are fantastic in this book...very detailed and super cute. The book takes only around 5 minutes for a young child to read. A+

Fortunately, we live in northern California and have had the ability to take our kids to the Monterey Aquarium and the ocean and I truly feel my little guy can relate to a lot of the things in this book from things he's seen. He LOVES sharks so the opening page is a real winner. Plus, each character seems to have their own individual experience so different children can relate (one child falls in the petting tank, another child is scared). Also, they introduce a manatee in this book and you don't often see manatees referenced so that was a very pleasant surprise. We have been reading this book on and off again for a year and my little boys still loves to have me read it to him.

The language is simple, but the illustrations are charming and interesting and have a lot of detail for kids to explore. They are timeless and fun and I enjoy reading them with my grandson.

My daughters love these books! Fun stories and cute pictures

Great small step forward for my son. I suggest starting out with the Biscuit collection, if your child is just starting to read books.

My marine-loving 4-yr. old granddaughter loved the story, but it was definitely NOT an early reader for her. Nonetheless, I loved the multisyllabic words and humorous illustrations. Both are important for kids to find in books! No moral here, no lesson - just fun.

Always a good read with the grandkids!
