This is a life-changing book that put into words so many things that have nagged at the back of my mind about the way we teach the Bible to children. It seems far too many picture Bibles, Sunday school curricula, and parenting books boil the Bible down to "This Bible character did this. You should do/not do this." You could completely remove God and Christ from some of these books/methods and the application would not change: be good. Likewise, as a parent it's too easy to simply use Bible stories as a way to try to manipulate our kids' behavior. To begin with, trying to "be good" without understanding our new life in Christ and the Holy Spirit's enablement is completely futile. This focus on morality apart from the Gospel also helps explain why many church kids grow up and leave the church. If all church gave them was a list of how to behave, but they never truly fell in love with Jesus and understand all he did for them, why stay in church?Klumpenhower maintains that "The cross of Jesus—not principles of good living—is the engine of the Christian life." The gist of this book is that more than anything, kids need to be shown God's character, Jesus' work, and the Holy Spirit's enabling. This, more than any moral lesson, will be what transforms them. "We make a mistake if we think kids are saved by hearing the good news and trusting Jesus, but then grow as Christians some other way." While the Bible does give useful examples, if kids "get Samuel the good listener without first appreciating God the Great Speaker, they're liable to end up relating to God only in an anxious, what-I-must-do way."Klumpenhower gives practical advice for how to teach the Word in a way that points to Jesus and not our own efforts. For example, when teaching Old Testament stories he recommends asking:"1) What is God doing for his people in this story? 2) Good News! How does God do the same for us—only better—in Jesus? 3) Believe it! How does believing this good news change how we live?"Here is an example from teaching about Moses:"What is God doing for his people in this story? He arranges events to protect baby Moses and give the Israelites a leader who will rescue them from Egypt. Good News! How does God do the same for us—only better—in Jesus? He has provided a Leader and Savior who rescues us from sin and death. Believe it! How does believing this good news change how we live? Even when it's hard to see, we can trust that God is working out his plan to complete our salvation."Another great example is how he recommends addressing sin: the surface sin we can see (example: dancing to lewd music), the selfish fear underneath (ex: afraid friends won't like or accept me), and the root unbelief (ex: not believing Jesus gives me God's approval).I'm just scratching the surface of this book. Chapter after chapter is filled with wonderful truth about how the grace given in the Gospel impacts every area of our lives and about how our identity in Christ is what transforms us. I recommend it to anyone who wants to use the Bible as their foundation for living, teaching, and parenting. It's that good. Go read it! If you're intrigued but not sure you can read the whole thing, download the free Kindle sample and at least read the introduction and first chapter; it will give you a good overview. And then you'll probably want to read the rest!

A while back, a ministry acquaintance of mine decided to impart a little "wisdom" to this children's pastor. His advice? Well, in the context of discussing preaching and teaching, he said: "Kids just need to be told what to do." Explaining, he adding "Obeying parents, reading Bible, that kind of thing." Within context, he was heavily implying that they don't need theology, or the teaching about why we do what we do. Instead, he was settling for simple moralism. As an amusing contrast, I had begun reading Show Them Jesus only shortly before that.Whatever good intentions may have lain in his heart, that acquaintance sadly failed to remember the axiom "Rules, without relationship, breeds rebellion." Show Them Jesus takes the Biblical philosophy that showing children Jesus, and helping them know him, allows morals and behavior to flow naturally from that relationship. Rules that children will want to follow themselves, rather than complain about and find every chance to break or bend, which is inevitable with simple moralism. The book is divided into two sections. The first is "Why Teach The Good News" and the second "How to Teach the Good News." Each chapter within those sections has a title, a subtitle, and a relevant quote. For example Chapter 4 has "The Factory-Preset Fourth Grader" with the subtitle "Because the good news changes hard hearts." While the titles are usually inventive and fun, they are also insightful enough to specifically address the problem and solution offered in that chapter. The basic premise of the book is summed up in a statement made early on. "Rather than coax the kids into temporarily acting better, Joe [a fellow teacher at the author's church] told about Jesus and trusted God to use that message to make the kids become better." The author, upon discovering this, tried it, tested it, and found it to be so true that he wanted to share it with the world. Hence, the book.In the aforementioned Chapter 4, one of my favorite chapters, the author begins with an all too familiar situation. He had just finished teaching on greed, specifically, not being greedy. Next up was snack time, and the class promptly began fighting over who got more cookies. Noting that simply moral teaching just wasn't cutting it, as studies show, and lives display. Taking the time to dissect each of the good reasons we try to motivate good behavior, he finds each lacking when compared with a genuine fascination and love for God.Part 1 absolutely shines in the approachable language, relatable stories, and Biblical evidence. His philosophy is, like the Bible, simple, yet profound. It strips away tradition to reveal the hollow human efforts behind it and instead purposes the solid and soul-transforming power of the Good News of the Gospel. At this point, I was begging to know how to best address this in my own preaching, and eagerly leaped into Part 2.Beginning in chapter 6, the author begins on a slightly wobbly note. He admits he has never been to college, nor received formal training with teaching or biblical interpretation. Sadly, this shows. Chapter 6 covers showing Jesus from the Old Testament, and is populated by as many mountain peaks of beauty as it is valleys of misunderstandings. One of the peaks is his looking at each passage in light of how man has failed (or will fail) through sin, and how God responds to that. This is formally known as Bryan Chappell's "Fallen Condition Focus." (1) Using this, the author rides this principle, not to the modern day, but first, to how Jesus either solved the problem, or offered a better solution than the one in the OT. He does this with one of three questions: "Who God is," "What God does," and "Jesus Solves Problems," This is actually a pretty interesting approach, and one that many teachers would benefit greatly from. He lays incredible emphasis on getting past the human players and looking to God for the lesson to be learned. He even recommends ditching pre-made lessons to try out this "good news" focused approach, an idea I (after reading far too many moralistic and simplistic and topical) I heartily agree with.Later, however, the author writes that each passage can have several themes and main ideas. While that's true to a point, concepts like the "Hermetical Idea" and/or "Exegetical Idea" rely on the fact that passages contain one big idea, and additional elements explain or apply it. He also offers the idea that some OT passages are wrought with a "tension" and incompleteness until Jesus is applied. While this sounds nice, it also means saying that God's Word was incapable of conveying the truth he wanted until thousands of years after it was written. What then of the original, biblical author's intent to his original audience? Sometimes, it seems, in the eagerness to find Jesus, Show Them Jesus misses that God is also, well, God. Using the author's own approach to find how God loved sinners would show how God continued to love them in that way in Jesus, rather than heavily hint that there are/were problems with the Bible and it's stories until 33 AD. Thankfully, the remaining chapters, stepping into Christ's time, then into modern application, obviously don't suffer as much from interpretive issues.Chapter 8 is heavy on practical application of this, not only in teaching, but in other classroom policies. It breaks down class rewards, discipline, corporate worship, and even how to handle misbehavior in light of the "good news" model. It's an incredibly hard-hitting chapter that needs to be read and re-read.The final chapter ends with a reminder to stay the course, even when it doesn't seem to be working, or life is frustrating, or even you yourself struggle with this "good news" focus. Christ is there, he loves you, and he will aid you. The conclusion, featuring a sermon excerpt of Spurgeon's, as his Gospel-centered message inspired D. L. Moody to speak far more often of Christ in his own preaching. This hearkens back to the opening of the book, as there, another teacher inspired the author on his own journey. The book closes by challenging the readers to inspire those around them as they too teach Christ. At it's brightest, Show Them Jesus is a brilliant beacon of hope that has the power to turn the stagnant and ineffective moralism upside down and inside out by reminding Christians of the power of God's good news in Christ. Like a surgical knife, it cuts away at false motivations and selfish desires to do right, and makes way for the Bible's truth to penetrate our hearts. He offers the problem, he offers a solution, and now it's our turn to step up to the plate and follow his lead in showing others Jesus.Notable Quotables:Chapter 1: Because Jesus is All We Need - "The good news means you relate to God based on what Jesus has done for you, not what you’ve done to prove yourself worthy."Chapter 4: The Factory-Preset Fourth Grader - "None of us learns to love anyone—including God—by having someone tell us to love them. You love people because you find them beautiful and lovable, and because they love you. The good thing is that God is far, far more beautiful and love-worthy than anything or anyone else, and he loves us far, far more than anyone else ever could."Chapter 8: The Grapes That Taught Good News - "The kids’ attitudes also confirmed what my gut felt when I first heard about the [Bible] bucks: a classroom culture built on rewards for performance wouldn’t fit the good news I planned to teach. It wouldn’t do to teach that God’s rewards in salvation come freely, by grace, but that rewards in the church come by being good and memorizing verses."Chapter 9: The War on Sin - "Moral reform is not the same as Christian growth."8/10

This is without a doubt the best book I have ever read aside from the Bible. This book taught me more in one day than 25 years in church. I had never been more excited about Jesus or the bible until this book, my son has caught on and loves to talk about it. My one goal as a parent, the only thing I truly want for my son is to have a love for god and an understanding of Gods love for him and I didn't know how to reach that goal until I read this. I prayed about it, and this book came up on my suggestion list with one review, could of been the mans wife, but I just knew that it wasn't a coincidence. I have since read it twice in my kindle and came back to order it in hardcover. Every parent and ministry leader should read this heavenly book. I have never read an author that was so humble, not the humble that makes you smirk but the type that makes you cry because you don't feel like you are being schooled or judged but somehow this man gets right on your level and speaks to your soul. Jack, thank you, for your humility, for your obedience, for your love for God, you have changed our lives and I will always be grateful.

This book is life changing. Honestly, and I’m not the only one who thinks that - another friend who also read it agrees. I think it is default in the American Church to reduce the Bible to moral lessons.. maybe just default in the human heart. I think we often know this internally somewhere but don’t know how to stop doing it or something?Jack opened my eyes to so much in this book; as much for my own heart as for the kids I teach and for my children. I want to buy this book for everyone I know! Read it.

I'm only a few pages in but so far this is an EXCELLENT read. I am highly impressed.

Peg Bowden, a retired nurse from Oregon, moves back to southern Arizona where she grew up and begins volunteering at a migrant shelter in Mexican Nogales. Here, she finds herself drawn into the humanitarian crisis that is happening daily on the US/Mexican border. The gross injustices, suffering, and personal stories of immigrants and deportees that have heretofore been borne in silence and anonymity are relayed in a direct and compassionate manner without scolding or preaching. Peg introduces us to the people who run the Comedor, the people who volunteer there, and most of all, to the people who pass through it on their journeys northward or southward.Peg's book takes an issue that is highly charged politically and debated ad nauseam and presents its most often overlooked, yet I feel its most important, side.Novelist and travel writer Paul Theroux writes the wonderful forward. I highly recommend this book.

Peg Bowden’s small book of stories and reflections enlightens, breaks your heart, challenges beliefs and may spur one to action. It shows a slice of life on the border through the eyes of the travelers and the eyes of the Samaritans. The universal need for food, shelter, safety and family becomes the driving force that places migrants in desperate situations and compels Samaritans to assist. With a measured voice that speaks with wisdom, compassion, and humility, Peg makes one quickly grasp the plight of the pilgrims. She uses the seasons, beauty and harshness of the desert, and the richness of culture as a backdrop for the stories. The photographs add richness to the story.

Thank goodness there are people like Peg Bowden who soften this Land of Hard Edges. It will take only a few moments to look at the front and back covers as well as read the Amazon preview which includes well-deserved praises and a comment from a Guatemalan man which has left a permanent lump in my throat. If that hasn’t hooked you, Amazon also lets you see an excellent Forward, Peg’s Introduction with which we all can identify. And part of Chapter 1 where she begins to do what most of us don’t.This book is well written and organized. Through smiles and tears you will learn the human part of immigration.(To see more of Peg Bowden’s stories, read her blog.)

With the activity on the border this summer, this book is an very good way to provide some background and insight. Peg Bowden is an excellent writer, and her stories are touching and interesting. She sheds some light on why people make this dangerous crossing and why this migration is not going to stop because of any amount of militarization of the border. Great descriptions of the desert and the heat, and the people who make the trip in spite of both. Read the book!

This is a wonderfully written first-hand account of the tragic life of the immigrants at the Mexican/US border. From the very beginning of the book, I was captivated by the author's honest narration skills and story-telling ability which draws the reader into the terrible dilemma at the border. I eagerly looked forward to stolen moments of engrossing reading and heart-wrenching stories. Make sure you reserve several hours for reading this book because you won't want to put it down. The stories should haunt us all into urging immediate action.

In her book, “A Land Of Hard Edges,” Peg Bowden captures the spirit of our migrant population as well as that of the volunteers who strive to make their journey a humane one. Her stories break our hearts, incite our rage and beg for action.I was lucky enough to visit the Comedor (a place of refuge for migrants), meet the migrants and the Samaritans (volunteers), observe the rituals, serve food, hear stories and then come home to read Bowden’s book. She humanizes the great controversy and political quagmire of immigration reform and illuminates for us the real political and economic agenda behind it.I liked that the book was organized by seasons in the desert. I learned more about the desert and its hardships, especially in relation to its frequent travelers. Her writing is clear, crisp and knowledgeable. She knows from which she speaks. The pictures, all affectionate in nature, remind me of a family album. Her stories define the plight of the migrant—individual and family stories. The migrant is our neighbor, co-worker, classmate of our children, our employee. Do we know the truth of their struggles? Do we care enough? Read "A Land of Hard Edges." Be informed. Get involved.

Peg Bowden writes with clarity and compassion. She has touched my heart and clarified for me the need for legislation with love.Peg introduces us to our neighbors who are suffering. She makes us aware of those who are showing care and helping thesefamilies who are paying the highest price for a better life. This book is a must read for anyone with a heart.

I couldn't read this at one go. I had to settle on a chapter at a time. My blood pressure would rise and I'd become furious with my government and the Border Patrol. After I calmed down, I could read another chapter. Some of the stories are so sad I'd tear up. What a great read.

enjoyed the book, got some good information about how to use a check list and the value it could bring. My only negative comment is that once he made his case he just kept repeating things.

Meh. The book is WAY over-hyped!! It spends MOST of its long never-ending pages explaining medical scenarios. It's unbelievable....I felt as if I was studying my Paramedic book again! All that nonsense to get to "Checklists are good...you should develop one for everything you do". That's it folks...I just gave you the cliff Notes for the ENTIRE book! Even the sample checklists (all two of them) they illustrate are a joke.Pay ME whatever this book costs, and I'll actually MAKE a checklist for you! Tell ya what...contact me if you want the book. I'll give it to you if you just pay shipping. Very disappointing!

Despite our vast knowledge in virtually every area of life, Gawande believes we are still deeply prone to failure. He believes many such failures could be overcome (and, conversely, much success obtained) through a simple but often ignored tool, the checklist. He writes:That means we need a different strategy for overcoming failure, one that builds on experience and takes advantage of the inevitable human inadequacies. And there is such a strategy though it will seem almost ridiculous in its simplicity, maybe even crazy to those of us who have spent years carefully developing ever more advanced skills and technologies. It is a checklist (p. 13).Gawande supports his conviction through the use of interesting, true accounts drawn from several areas: medicine (chapters 1, 2, 5, 7 and 8), aviation (chapter 6 and pp. 32-34, 173-182), construction (chapter 3), national disasters (chapter 4), factories (chapter 6), and investments (chapter 8).The author believes that we normally do not look for patterns in our failures but we should, and the simple checklist could serve as our guide (p. 185). I, personally, have always made use of checklists, finding them a valuable means to keep me on task and remind me of what needs to be done. But The Checklist Manifesto has challenged me to step up my game, especially in my supervision of others and in accomplishing long term and/or complex goals. I think most everyone would benefit from reading this well-written, interesting, and helpful book.Reviewed by Gary E. Gilley, Pastor-teacher, Southern View Chapel

Loaded with anecdotes with little scientific backing. Not much to get out of this book other than "checklists can be useful for some situations." If the author ever chooses to write an update, I hope he adds some how-to info and includes such items as criteria for making a good checklist, best practices for checklist structuring and development, etc.

I had to read this book for work, and I wasn't looking forward to it. To my surprise it has a very good narrative is quite readable. The examples used are compelling and keep the pages turning. By the end it had me thinking of our processes and I have my team scouring them looking for places where a checklist would be appropriate. If you're concerned about quality, you should give this book a try.

I bought this for my niece who is a nurse, after my brother's hospital experience was unsatisfactory. Knowledge, history, and status weren't shared by the staff and there was no mechanism for tracking details, like the fact that he was diabetic though recovering from a surgery (related to the diabetes). There were bad estimates of his pain level from the staff not knowing he had had two strokes. And he got a terrible bed sore. My niece works in a different hospital where she described her reputation for documenting everything meticulously. I thought I would give her some further support for this practice. Gawande is the go-to guy for all things medical, and especially for wisdom related to medical and hospital practice. He has data, narratives, and is authoritative. Many errors and hospital acquired complications can be avoided with checklists that keep everyone on all shift on the same page. They are more detailed than normal white board status reports. I noted that a hospital near me, when I went for a diagnostic test, seemed to use the practice. Every new person who entered the room asked my name and what I was there for. While repetitive, it eliminates the possibility of the wrong procedure happening to someone. I also recommend Jerome Groopman for other medical practice wisdom.

I suppose you could order the abbreviated summary version of the book to get the main idea and you might already suspect that the main idea is that checklists are the way to get things right. I must say, however, that the main idea is just the destination and understanding how Atul arrived at this simple and perhaps obvious result is just as important in driving the point home. I am only three chapters in and the point has been made but the supporting evidence around how and why checklists are the way has been profoundly moving.

Very interesting exploration of the benefits of using checklists in various industries (but mainly in operating theaters in hospital) to facilitate consistency which leads to improvements in many areas : productivity, safety, profitability to name but a few. The author is a highly experienced surgeon who saw the advantages of introducing checklists to radically improve patient safety during operations and in recovery. What I found shocking from reading this book was the sheer number of mistakes that are routinely made in operating theaters around the world which lead to poor recovery rates and even death in some cases. The benefit of introducing checklists into theater was enforcement of policy that all staff during an op were now "singing off the same hymn sheet". The book alludes to this idea repeatedly. The book was very readable my only gripe was I'd have liked to have seen an example of the checklists that the author referred to.

If we were to advise someone to live an idle life we would most probably be met with a strange, if not a comical, look. Hard work and a disciplined life has been so ingrained in our minds it is difficult to imagine living in a different mode. We have been trained to get up early, rush to work, do a meticulous job, finish quickly and drive back home through mad traffic, seeking peace and quietude. It is hectic, but we have been used to it. The author of this book, Mr Hodgkinson, wants us to reverse this pattern and to go back to our old, relaxed and leisurely life, i.e. before the car and the telephone. That was when we worked at our own pace, had long lunch breaks, took a nap in the afternoon and played with the children out in the fresh, uncontaminated atmosphere. People in farming, herding, weaving, mending ...did not understand what work anxiety was about. When exactly did we switch to our modern, hectic lifestyle? Sociologists differ, but most agree on industrialisation being the main culprit. When machines arrived and mass production started in 17th century, the world took a turn and with it just about everything changed. In one sense, it was a blessing. People were now guaranteed a steady income at the end of the month; products became more available and amenities more affordable and enjoyable. At the beginning there was excitement and all looked well. But with time, life was becoming more stressful and tedious, and anxiety levels shot up. Working 10-12 hours a day at a factory 6-7 days a week was strenuous, if not exhausting. People's leisure time disappeared and fatigue set in. Employer's pressure to produce more was relentless. In fact workers started to realise that, sadly, they were being owned and enslaved by their companies. Employers started a psychological campaign to uplift morals using expressions like; Work is heathy, idleness is for the lazy; hard work brings health, wealth and wisdom, and so on. But the few intellectuals. who refused to be enslaved, realised what was going on: it was all a selfish effort to increase the wealth of the few, rich owners. So, how does the author suggest we get over this ingrained philosophy of hard work intended only to enrich the capitalists in our society? "It's time to say No to jobs and Yes to fun, freedom and pleasure. It's time to be idle " says the author. Taking all this seriously, he established the Idler Magazine to help people start their idle life. He launched a comprehensive effort to romanticise the good old days before industrialisation. Why be a slave to a schedule we did not choose? Why rush in the morning? Rising early is unnatural. "No! early risers are not healthy, wealthy and wise - they are often sickly, poor and stupid" . The best ideas have come from idle people and not from those hampered by excessive routines. And, look at our eating habits: long gone is the leisurely lunch with wine and good friends; see now how it has been reduced to a dry sandwich eaten alone, in order to rush back to work.. What about our afternoon nap - our "inalienable right" which has been taken from us by the agents of industry. Winston Churchill and Thomas Edison, to mention only two great men, took a nap every day! The author bemoans too, the death of the afternoon tea, a calming ritual which to many was absolutely sacrosanct. After all it was the drink of poets and philosophers. It was mostly abandoned - it retarded production. What are we to make of all this? Should we go ahead and join the Idlers? Or, is our modern life, hectic as it is, more beneficial and, at least, ensures our financial security? We obviously need a compromise, one that will ensure our security as well as provide us with the peace of mind and the will to bring back the fun and joy of the old idle days.Fuad R QubeinFeb., 2017

Everyone who is too busy at times needs to read this book, just as a way of NOT feeling guilty for taking things down a few notches when and if they need to. Well written and witty, I thoroughly enjoyed it and unlike my other kindle books which I usually remove from my device after completing, I'm keeping this one around to remind me to take things more easy and be a little kinder to myself. You may not agree with all sections of the book (such as recommending staying up late or sleeping in until late morning, neither of which I do) but you will find things that resonate with you. At least I did. Fantastic section about how the Industrial Revolution stole our free time from us and, combined with the Puritan Work Ethic, helped turn us into the stress and overwork monsters we are today.

Being an idler is not that easy. It requires letting go of the need for security and achievement and lots of other things we think we need to get by. Just being receptive and letting the world spin on its own. A lot of people just can't handle the stillness. It's ironic, but an idler can actually get a lot accomplished. Taoism--the Asian traditions have a lot to say about that. In Japanese art, the concept of negative space--leaving parts of the canvas empty so that the viewer can rest--is important. In the Bible, Jesus spoke to Martha and Mary about stopping the constant busyness. It seems like the Old Testament encourages people to work really hard--especially the Proverbs--but the New Testament is more about laying your burdens down.

Being a 20 something now, the thing you hear most often is "get a job". That was easy enough in my grandfather's day; work your way up the corporate ladder, pop out some kids, work a little more, get a good pension, feel some good old-fashioned pride. Things were good. Now it's like, work for 8-10 hours, pop in a microwaved meal, think about paying off some student loan debt, stare at the computer, get 4 hours of sleep and do it all the next day. How To Be Idle is exactly what it sounds like: it's a run through of a possible alternative to the work 'til you drop ideology. For starters, the idea that a person doesn't have to wake up by 8 o'clock to be productive could be an eye opening concept for some. Think of how much time you waste just 'thinking' about doing work. Could it be that your procrastination is actually helping you in the long run? Thinking of procrastination as strategy that could propel ones work is a strange and yet perfect idea. When you're ready to work, you'll know it. How is it a good idea to drink an extra large coffee, that gives you the shakes and gut rot and only the illusion of productivity. Fear not- Idling doesn't mean sitting around like a new age bum, although that would be perfectly acceptable should you choose that option. It means taking control of your day, and not letting work (especially the bureaucratic busy work) run your life. Take time to drink a cup of tea. It's ritualistic and more conscious than a gallon of coffee. We learned this already, slow and steady wins the race,I read this in Florida visiting my grandparents and they, and all the other seniors by the pool seemed to look at the cover as some sort of communist manifesto. I think for them, working was a profitable, well respected and attainable prospect. It seems today that the precarity of existing in a society that constantly puts up obstacles, leaving a person in a constant state of anxiety makes any alternative of thinking a helpful or even life saving option. If you're sick and tired of being sick and tired, this is really the book. Sleep in, have a cup of tea, a smoke, sex, drink, and a good conversation all while getting your work done. Imagine that.

This book to me; brings forth the idea that you don't need alot of things to get you excited by life. The simpler things i.e. a good book, some music, loved ones and friends can enrich your life, more than things. A balm to Consumerism and a great read:)

I enjoyed this as I've been researching Cricut ,+Silhouette. I'm glad I bought this before I made my decision. A few things I don't understand but quite a bit I do 're using the software now that I've seen screen shots. It reminds me of a digitizing/machine embroidery/photo editing program so I think ill pick it up fast. Now if someone would write a tutorial project ebook that would be fantastic for newbies like me. I would be a customer.

This book is OK. Doesn't give much more information than the Cameo 3 manual. It doesn't walk you through any projects to help you learn how things work in making your project. I've learned more from watching YouTube videos.

This book has been the best thing for me to learn what the Silhouette can do! It is written in easy to understand language with lots of photos. I am still learning something every time I use it. It is a great reference book!

This is a helpful guide. I needed something that I could read separate from my computer while using my Cameo. I do not learn very well when I have instructions on the computer while using the computer at the same time. This guide was perfect for me, since it was on my Kindle.

Buying my Silhouette machine is a love/hate, hate/love relationship! I have had trouble with this machine as the included manual doesn't really explain how to use it! So I went searching for something to help me and found this guide! While I wish now that I had bought the new Cricut machine, this guide has helped me with what I am stuck with for now. I like how the author wrote out what does what. He makes it very easy to understand the different parts of what you can do.I think that his tutorials are the best tho. When you download any item off the the Silhouette website you only get the image, not the instructions! So his tutorials really help. I wish that he wrote more... but I think that that is just the way it will be with this machine! But I am thankful for his help!

I have found other resources which are more thorough than this guide and easier to follow, as well.

Great reference. Easy to read and very helpful.

Well written, especial if you are new to the cameo, and with the new update version 3 software I personally can understand the software much better. Thank you Ms. Hudson for thinking of all the newbies to the cameo!!
