About the Author

CHARLES DYER (B.A., Washington Bible College; Th.M. and Ph.D., Dallas Theological Seminary) served as provost and dean of education at Moody Bible Institute before becoming Professor-at-Large of Bible at Moody and host of The Land and the Book radio program. Before coming to Moody, Charlie served for 20 years in multiple administrative and faculty roles at Dallas Theological Seminary - ultimately serving as Executive Vice President under Chuck Swindoll. In addition to his role as host of The Land and the Book radio program, Charlie is an Old Testament scholar and an authority on Middle Eastern history and geography. He also serves as Associate Pastor of Grace Bible Church in Sun City, Arizona. Charlie has traveled extensively throughout the Middle East for more than 30 years, leading more than 80 trips. He is the author of numerous books, including A Voice in the Wilderness, What's Next?, The New Christian Traveler's Guide, Character Counts: The Power of Personal Integrity, and Thirty Days in the Land with Jesus. His most recent book is The Isis Crisis. They used history, current events, and Biblical prophesy including Daniel 9, Ezekiel 38, and Isaiah 32-32 to illustrate this. The book helped me to understand how ISIS/ISIL affects the Middle East conflicts, anti-Israel sentiments, and desires for material gain (gas, oil, and water). NOt for the faint of heart, we a left with hope at the end of this highly-recommended book.

This is an excellent small book. It gives a great but concise history of the Middle East and a really good explanation of the various groups vying for control there. It ends with a message to Christians to nonetheless be compassionate with individuals.

This is a really good book that helps you understand more fully what is going on in the Middle East and how it has evolved to where it is now. I'm a big fan of Charlie Dyer, who understands that part of the world better than most. This book doesn't leave you in despair but leaves you with hope, reminding us that God is still on his throne and still in control of all that goes on in our world.

Very well written. There is so much history to the Middle East region, and the author sorted out the various sects and tribes to explain their differences. The best message is that no matter what, God is in charge. His plan will prevail.

This book is very easy to understand. It explains all the history behind our problems today in the Middle East. I highly recommend if you want to understand what is happening now in Middle East.

Perfect for someone who wants to grasp the origin of problems in the Middle East. I did not know the difference between the Sunnis and Shiites. It gave me an appreciation for the complexity of the problems in that area.

Good, quick review of the history of the mess we call the Middle East. Not sure I agree with the author's recommendation that as good Christians, we should lay down our lives for ISIS without a fight.

The author is so knowable about his subject and can explain it so well for such a complex situation. Think I understand the real threat that ISIS represents not only to the U.S. But to most of the world. Believe I learned more from this excellent book than listening to all the media talking heads for monhs

I bought this book alongside two other more generic "Memories for my Grandchild" books for my mom (divorced) and my inlaws (still married). Was planning on giving this to my mom and the other two to ILs, but man would this one have been awkward for my mom because I think it just assumes way too much about the grandmother and the family!- A whole section dedicated to questions about the grandfather that somewhat imply that they are still together (as another reviewer noted, asking about first kiss, when grandfather proposed, and why she loves him, etc etc.)- 2 entire sections that assume the grandmother went to college (one section that asks details about what she went to college for, another for vacation photos during college years)- The vacation photos during college years is a bit weirdly put together, saying something like, "Here are my wild and crazy photos from spring break!" -- even giving this to my MIL I feel a bit weird because she's so conservative (also that it doesn't seem necessarily appropriate for your grandma to be sharing her drunken topless beach sorority photos from spring break lol)- A section (which you can see in the preview) that says "We didn't always live in the US, here's how we got here..." -- and what if your family HAS always lived in the US? Or what if your family DOESN'T live in the US at all? Yeesh.I could probably go on.It's a great book all the same, but yeah, it only works well if you just happen to have a very traditional family who has led a very traditional life.

Horrible book with useless questions that will not provide your child with any significant appreciation or understanding of their grandparent which makes this particular book pointless to buy. If you are looking for a wonderful, heartfelt, and truly insightful keepsake with a broad array of in depth questions which allow grandma to write full responses on beautifully lined pages, in her own words, then buy "Grandmother, Tell Me Your Story" by Susan Branch instead. I originally purchased both because without being able to browse through them before purchasing, I didn't know which one would be better. The one by Susan Branch is amazing and exactly what I was looking for!!!

I bought this book as a gift to help "announce" our pregnancy. Unfortunately, there are about three pages dedicated to "When Grandma was in college" and pages 34-53 are about how "she met the love of her life," pictures from their wedding, etc. It's not exactly ideal for a grandma who wasn't married and didn't go to college. I wanted a book my mother could fill out about HERSELF, not about her husband. I'm sure this book will work well for some, but it would have been helpful to know how grandpa-based it was prior to buying. I would like to return it, but unfortunately, since it spent time wrapped up as a gift, the return date has lapsed.

I wish I had know there were several pages on grandma and grandpa. This was supposed to be a book on grandmas life for my child. I didn't want to include several pages on his grandparents relationship so me they divorced. Tearing them out left the book empty and I lost some other pages as well.

The pages only take a ball point or permanent pen, which is complaint #1. But my real complaint is that some of the questions were worded in such a way that, while it would've been easy to make this inclusive of step parents or adoptive parents, it's just not.You can do better designing this yourself online and ordering it to fit the needs of your family.

Not exactly what I expected, the book would be great for a Grandmother to give her granddaughter, but not masculine enough for my Grandson. Or maybe the graphics are just too babyish for my taste.however, the quality is excellent.

Too many pages dedicated to grandpa being the love of grandmas life and how the met. My parents are divorced and it would have been nice if the book just focused on grandma without having to single out divorced folks.

I had bought this book previously to make for my grandson, so I ordered it again. Although it covers everything, I was reminded of all the research it required and also asks a lot of really not necessary information. I trashed it for another grandchild and am going to look for another one.

I have been amazed by this book, how someone could come up with such beautiful detailed pictures. I've been using it and it definitely helps me relax! I'm coloring the first of the butterflies. I'm 64 and this book is the perfect way for me to pass the time weekday afternoons while waiting for the mailman in the community room! Highly recommended! And I hope there'll be more.

I ordered this for my wife and here is what she has to say: I just received the coloring book and it is very well done! Bravo! Pages are of a good quality and the patterns are crisp and clean-lined. This was not just thrown together. The patterns and pictures are varied, and there is something for all tastes. I especially like the geometric prints.Very generous offering with over a hundred patterns. There are no supplies with this and that keeps the price reasonable. Author does give some advice on what works best and what will not, and some suggestions of where to purchase supplies. I'd snatch it up if you are into this medium of art. I look forward to anything else Nitin might offer.

On removing the book from its packaging I was impressed with the cover. The colorful pattern on the black background was striking. After reading the intro and the tips page I browsed through the designs and there is a nice variety of images, several of which really appealed to me. I only found one thing distracting and that was the orientation of the portrait designs. They are placed so the bottom of the image is at the spine of the book and my natural inclination was to want to turn the book so the top of the image was at the spine. It's probably just me. I don't know if there is an official convention regarding this. Anyway, I look forward to getting some colored pencils so I can get started. I've always been somewhat of a doodler. Now I get to color someone else's doodles.

I am so glad I purchased this Adult Coloring Book by Nitin Mistry in particular.When you open this book your mind starts thinking and relaxing since it takes you to your childhood days of coloring.It has 23 Mandala patterns which are unique.19 Landscape patterns which are the best.17 Animal patterns and my favorites are Doggy,Cat,Owl,Dolphin,Lion and Butterflies.I intend framing them once I color them.Author gave the tip of taking copies and trying the coloring first or to color same pattern in different colors.This is one activity the entire family can do together and its fun.This is so stress relieving and every one can become an artist for once.This will be a good gift item for Kids,adults and grand parents to help them become young again coloring.This is the best Adult Coloring Book out there after comparing.I recommend this to every one.

This is a very fun project. I ordered two books. One I cut off the spine so I could photocopy the drawings for coloring. This way I can use a specific page and color it many different ways. The other book, I kept intact and show it to friends and family so they know what it looks like.

I just received my soft cover edition and the art work is extremely inviting. I have been a fan of Nitan and his wife for several years and their attention to detail and quality are top notch. Join me on this stress reducing journey. Update: 11/31/15 Having had a few days to do nothing but relax and color, I can't express how much I have enjoyed this book. The designs are eloquent and the white space for coloring is well thought out.

This is the first book of mandala art that I have purchased. I have looked at others, but this one has a lot of variety. I am very happy with my purchase. Some pictures are more intricate than others, so I can choose a page that works with my time schedule and what is going on in my life. I save more intricate ones for higher stressed days or bigger spaces of time. It is a great creative outlet. I highly recommend this book.

That damn Zeke just couldn't get right. His heart was just filled with so much hate for his brother that he couldn't see the love that Rakeem had for him. But he got exactly what he deserved in the end. Justice, where do I begin with this heifer? She was just stupid, all she had to do was come clean with Jaxson and he probably would have stayed with her, but no Justice couldn't do that. Now look where her ass is, sitting in a cell. At first I thought Bridgette was a little push over but in the end she showed who she was, especially when she tore Justice ass up. I was glad that Emonni and Rakeem got theirselves together because Rakeem got done so wrong but his stupid brother. The only good thing out of Rakeem mishap in prison was that he found his father. Overall this was a great book.

This book was too good. Emani is a good hearted woman that feel I love with Ra. I hated the Bridget had to go through all the drama because Justice didn't like her. Justice sold her friend out over a man that really didn't want her. She was to lie down and dirty that got what she deserved in the end. Seek was downright crazy, using these women for his own good. In the end they are reason he lost his life. Glad We got his life back together as well. Good book

Man Zeke was crazy as hell. Like who who goes their whole life just plotting for no reason. I am glad Ra and Mani got it together. Jax seemed cool too. Justice baby it was all bad for her in the end. I can't believe she went out like that I really didn't see that coming. Bridgette was a down friend and I thought she was guilty. Well overall good read.

The book actually begins with a letter dated Nov. 20, 1899, and sent by Catherine Hall Onesti, now living in Providence, RI, to her namesake great-granddaughter on her fourteenth birthday accompanying the journal as a present. The journal records the daily lives and special events of Cassie, her family, and friends, such as going to school, attending church services, cooking the food which is Catherine's job following the death of her mother, celebrating holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, and other such activities. Catherine sees what appears to be a phantom in the woods and later, after losing her copybook outside, finds it again with the message "PLEEZ MISS TAKE PITTY I AM COLD." So she and Cassie secretly leave one of the old quilts that Catherine's mother had made for this person. Was it an apprentice who had run away, or perhaps an escaped slave? Also Catherine's father comes back from getting supplies in Boston, MA, with a new wife and her son Daniel. How will Catherine get along with her step-mother and step-brother? Then Cassie becomes seriously ill. What will happen to her? Also Cassie's Aunt Lucy arrives for an extended visit and catches the eye of the local teacher, Mr. Edward Holt. After they eventually marry and move to Exeter, they want Catherine to come stay with them to help take care of their new baby. What will Catherine do? In one of her final entries, Catherine says, "This year, more than others, has been a lengthy gathering of days, wherein we lived, we loved, were moved; learned how to accept." The book then ends with another letter that Catherine sends to her great-granddaughter dated Dec. 9, 1899, evidently in response to a thank-you note with some questions, in which she ties up a few loose ends. Some people might find the diary-method of telling a story to be boring, but I found A Gathering of Days to be a fascinating account of New England life in the early 1800s, telling both the hardships of pioneer life and its many joys, accurately yet touchingly. The vocabulary, spelling and syntax are old-style and may present difficulties for a few children, but most youngsters, including homeschoolers, should have no problem with them. This very readable book which has nothing objectionable won the Newbery Medal in 1980.

This book was amazing! I enjoyed it a lot. The author has an amazing way of writing words. I thought this book was filled with excitement and I loved every bit of it. It has also inspired me to write a journal for my future great grandchild(ren)

Written as a diary, the story follows a young teen age girl and her family for about a year or so. The girl's reflections on her life and what is going on around her community in the 18th century. I enjoyed the story.

Donâ€™t give up just because itâ€™s a bit slow at first. This is a good read for all ages. Recommend

Granddaughters love the book.

This book was required reading for my daughter's class. To me, the best part of this novel is that it is historical fiction. So while you're reading a story of a young lady, you're learning about the time in which she lived, along with its society and culture. It's a more interesting way to learn some history than just reading out of a history book.

Very interesting. I purchased another copy for my teenage granddaughter.

The book is basically a how to on the mannequinization of the human body. This is an essential step in drawing action figures, especially from imagination. The book is full of a variety of poses including action, reclining, sitting, etc., and in that way should be helpful to illustrators. However, my pet peeve with this book is the absolute failure to show dimensions or construction details for a single figure or part. For example, nowhere are we told that the mannequin head may be approximated by a sphere for the cranial mass, nor how to divide that mass to locate the hairline or brow ridge. Neither are we shown how to construct the jaw approximation that attaches to it or how to locate the nose or mouth. Neither do the torso, pelvis, or limbs have any associated dimensions or construction details. Yes, we do see plenty of examples of each of these elements drawn from a variety of angles, twists and rotations. The author's intent seems to be to provide a large variety of examples which he expects everyone to practice over and over. I understand this. There is no substitute in drawing for rehearsal ad nauseam. But construction details/methods are also enormously important and would be very much appreciated.If you would like to draw figures from imagination and are interested in the mannequinazation of the human body, I think that the best book for this is Andrew Loomis' "Figure Drawing for All Its Worth." This is the volume that Normal Rockwell often praised and I find the treatment much more satisfying than Ross' book. At the time of this writing, it is still in print and available new or used from Amazon. It is an established classic and still used in figure drawing curricula the world over.

Ross is an amazing illustrator and the book is inspiring. However I predict it takes years and years of practice ( plus methods and tricks learned elsewhere ) before one could even approach the level of competency expressed by the images in the book. Nonetheless, there are a *ton* of pages and a *ton* of exercises so the value is definitely there.

I specifically liked this book because it started off by explaining the basics and built from there. I wouldn't recommend this book for beginners, because I could see it being a little frustrating if you're just starting out. I appreciate that it actually talks in depth about perspective, because it can be very difficult to find books or websites that do more than briefly mention it.

Superb book. Helpful, unpretentious, and to the point. Very readable book and wonderful reference teaching a glass mannequin technique that will help you draw with a model or without one.

This book focuses highly on drawing the figure in perspective. To be honest, most figure drawing books only touch on the figure in perspective. This is a worthwhile buy for those learning to draw comics to realistic figures and helping you learn how to put them in perspective perspective

Very cool tutorial book for drawing figures in dynamic poses and angles. Easy to follow. Helps me think in a more three dimensional way when it comes to my figures.

One of the best YA contemporaries Iâ€™ve read since the last Alice Oseman book... seriously, very relatable, fun, touching, and diverse

I loved this book! Well written characters and story, gripping, sweet and relatable!

So if you donâ€™t know, Alice Osemanâ€™s Radio Silence is my favourite book of all time. That made me really excited for this book. And I overall really enjoyed it.The book is told in a duel-perspective, changing from Angel, a girl who is a huge fan of a band called The Ark, and Jimmy, a boy who is part of The Ark.Angel is really into The Arkâ€™s fandom and I loved that part of the book. I think it was portrayed so well overall, from the fanâ€™s dedication, to shipping, to even uncalled for hatred for memberâ€™s girlfriends. As I was in the All Time Low fandom on Tumblr for a number of years, this mirrored a lot of what I experienced and saw (ironically, a side character was an All Time Low fan too, which I freaking loved). Angel wasnâ€™t the kind that hated a girlfriend by default but she was into shipping Jimmy with his bandmate Rowan. Itâ€™s handled in a pretty realistic way. Although, Iâ€™m surprised Angel didnâ€™t at all acknowledge people who wouldâ€™ve been against the ship, since that would also be common. Also, even just a reference to either Jimmy or Rowan being shipped with the third band member, I think adding that wouldâ€™ve been good too. I also loved how the book really validated online friendships. Thatâ€™s something you rarely see in fiction and I feel like the book portrayed it really well.Another thing about Angel I loved was that she did on the low end of average in school while trying hard. Not only that but sheâ€™s okay with it. The book doesnâ€™t portray her not being an academic person as a bad thing. It also didnâ€™t portray it from a lack of trying, since people who do try hard in their school and uni work and get average grades do exist. It was really validating and something really important to talk about since typically when characterâ€™s grades are talked about, itâ€™s always high marks. So I really appreciated this book portrayed a character who tried and still didnâ€™t excel highly, thatâ€™s the reality for most.I really loved Jimmy at a character. Heâ€™s getting really anxious due to fame and pressure thatâ€™s been thrown onto him. He was already dealing with an anxiety disorder, and has been experiencing worse and worse panic attacks. His portrayal was interesting, one of the things heâ€™s very adamantly against is claims of fans saying they â€˜love himâ€™ due to them not knowing him at all. That was a great input and it later prompts Angel to wonder if she loves Jimmy or just the idea of Jimmy, which was also done so well. Jimmy was an overall great character, and you completely understand his struggles.I also loved his friendship with his band mates. Rowan his his best friend, which contributes a lot to the shipping of them. It was a really realistic friendship, they sometimes fought but they clearly still cared about each other. The third band member Lister, is kind of the third wheel since heâ€™s only in the band because Jimmy and Rowan needed a drummer. But itâ€™s clear that the three did have a certain connection.One thing I didnâ€™t love was that it dragged at times. Itâ€™s mostly character driven so it made it a little dull at times. I also found the duel-perspective to be a little whiplash-y at times before the mid way point. It was used well at some points though.I overall really liked this book and Iâ€™m looking forward to more from this author

This book is beautiful. I Was Born for This is the story of Angel (Fereshteh) Rahimi and Jimmy Kaga-Ricci. Angel is a fangirl of the boy band, The Ark. She pours all of her love into loving them. Jimmy is a member of said boy band. Although, in reality he's more of an anxious mess than his cheery, chic exterior would make him seem. For Jimmy, the realities of fame are becoming more and more constricting. It doesnâ€™t help that he has an anxiety disorder that is exasperated by the strains of fame.Oseman is a master at writing about friendship. The characters she develops are so lovable and relate-able. I loved everyone in this book. Everyone. Usually thereâ€™re a couple characters I donâ€™t really care for, but that wasnâ€™t the case here. And itâ€™s not like everyone was perfect and lovely and adorable. They were all flawed and frustrating and down right depressing at times. Oseman creates characters that youâ€™ll care about even at their worst. Thereâ€™s something so realistic and earnest about her writing.I Was Born for This deals with friendship, fandom, insecurity, mental illness, and love. And the thing that I love about Oseman's books is that, while she always focuses on love, it's not the romantic type. Too often in stories (and in real life) we undervalue the types of love that aren't attached to romantic partnerships. But friendship is just as deep and meaningful and beautiful as all the other types of love out there. Oseman not only captured that in I Was Born for This, she celebrated it. I didn't just love the characters, I loved the relationships they had with one another. The friendships that they had. It's something you don't see very often in Young Adult novels - a focus on friendship over romance - and it's something that Oseman does remarkably well. I can't wait for whatever Oseman comes up with next.
