For most of the series Wulfgar is a stereotypical savage with a conveniently magical hammer. At the outset of Sea of Swords, Wulfgar has lost his hammer to a tribe of ogres and feminist pirates, adopted a daughter and wife from Auckney and Luskan. Wulfgarâ€™s character is deeply explored surviving the Abyss and alcoholism. It is unfortunate hat Cattie Brie does not get the same depth until somewhat later in Salvatoreâ€™s novels. However Salvatore seems to evolve and challenge himself on his weak fronts so Cattie Brie starts to develop her own legacy in upcoming novels. It is true that there has not been an â€œall Cattie Brieâ€ novel other than her third of The Companions . I hope alongside the development of Jarlaxle Zaknafein and Drizzt would also be a sorority or deadly rivalry between Yvonell and Cattie Brie.What is enjoyable to read at this point of the Drizzt series, is the way Salvatore can manipulate plotting and perspective to create suspense. Of course some of the flaws in Sea of Swords may not be the authorâ€™s fault but the format which is a Wizards of the Coast product which is bundled in sales alongside Forgotten Realms products. So the ending perhaps resolved a bit too quickly for all the characters to have their testing moment so to speak. For example, Cattie Brie takes out a whole pirate ship with one arrow, kind of the coolest thing anyone does in the whole story (except the antagonists tragic yet clever plot to assassinate Drizzt). This is a big difference the villains escaping or being drowned inside a sinking ship. Perhaps Salvatore can reanimate Sheila the Bloody Keel via undead Ebonsoul the pirate lich who is sworn revenge on Regis RumbleBelly.Salvatoreâ€™s ability to shift perspective and spend time in character arcs of Entreri and Wulfgar form the basis of an ever expanding world in which there is more and more love from the fans of all the characters. And it is a style of Salvatoreâ€™s, in the vein of Ed Greenwood, to give all the characters a heart and soul. This cinematic style will continue to be refined in the 20+ Drizzt novels that will follow Sea of Swords.

The companions of the Hall are made aware of that Wulfgar has lost his great warhammer and fear for the worse. Meanwhile Wulfgar struggles with the responsibility of his family weighed against retrieving his lost weapon in the fine company of Deudermont, Robillard and crew. Morik finds himself smitten with a seductive sorceress from his past,while a mysterious masked elf quests for unfounded vengeance against Drizzt.

What is scarier than a drow (dark elf) that wields two swords and is coming right at you? Having no where to run!Drizzt makes another appearance as one of Salvatore's longstanding and epic story characters. As is the case in most of Salvatore's stories about this lone drow ranger, Drizzt must fight for good, his friends, or as often as not - the entire safety of the Realms. In each book, however, he grows a little and learns more about himself and his closest and dearest friends. As a drow, he will have a long life, measuring in centries not decades - and this fact is what lends such interest to many readers of Salvatore's premier hero.While this particular book had soome weird political-like undertones at times, it was still a very enjoyable read and worth picking up. I will caveat, however, and state I haven't really found a book in Salvatore's Forgotten Realms series that I haven't enjoyed. It is always good to read about different parts of a fantasy world - but there is just something alluring about watching a character develop over the span of numerous books - whether Drizzt, Elminster, or any of the other great multi-part story heroes that have been cultivated by the authors of the Realms.

The Sea of swords was a vast improvement on the last book. Drizzt has returned and proven yet again that he is master of the scimitar. The story with the pirates and the elf was very entertaining I enjoyed the twist of having someone hate Drizzt but not being evil just misguided. Most of all tho we finally have out barbarian back to his former self! Short of being engaged to Cat.

Salvatore finally brings the Paths of Darkness series of the Dark Elf Saga to a close with "Sea of Swords". This novel was an enjoyable read that had several differences from previous novels that focused on Drizzt Do'Urden and the Companions of the Hall.For instance, instead of pursuing an enemy, or attempting to fight a war, the companions are instead pursuing a friend: the estranged Wulfgar. After defeating a band of rogues in Ice Wind Dale, evidence discovered by the rest of the Companions suggests Wulfgar might not be coping with his demons well. Drizzt and company set out after him and his lost magical war hammer. Along the way, they must come to grips with how they will welcome back their lost friend.A nice twist to this novel is the mystery of the elf Le'lorinel pursuit of Drizzt. Readers of the earlier novels of the series might figure this one out, but it comes to a dramatic and somewhat unexpected conclusion in the end. Salvatore combines a lot of plot lines and characters from other novels in this book, but this subplot was the most successful.The lack of Artemis Entreri, Jarlaxle, other drow elves, and a climatic war help make this novel fresh in comparison to others in the series. The enemies may seem beneath what the Companions are capable of, but they can't fight dragons every time. A pirate band and clan of ogres fill in nicely this time around.Spending less time than usual on action, more time on uniting characters from previous novels and resolving dangling issues, Slavatore has created and engaging fun read. Its not his best work, but it is still a fantastic story. If this is the last novel of the Dark Elf Saga, then it ends the series nicely, but I hope to read more. I would encourage fantasy fans to pick this one up.

Peter H. Irons is emeritus professor of political science at the University of California, San Diego. He is a co-editor of May It Please the Court: The Most Significant Oral Arguments Made Before the Supreme Court Since 1955 (with Stephanie Guitton), May It Please the Court: The First Amendment: Live Recordings and Transcripts of the Oral Arguments Made Before the Supreme Court in Sixteen Key First Amendment Cases, and May It Please the Court: Courts, Kids, and the Constitution: Live Recordings and Transcripts of Sixteen Supreme Court Oral Arguments on the Constitutional Rights of Students and Teachers, all published by The New Press. He has also contributed to numerous law reviews and other journals. He was chosen in 1988 as the first Raoul Wallenberg Distinguished Visiting Professor of Human Rights at Rutgers University. He has been invited to lecture on constitutional law and civil liberties at the law schools of Harvard, Yale, Berkeley, and Stanford and at more than twenty other schools. In addition to his academic work, Irons has been active in public affairs. As other reviews note, this has only excerpts, not full arguments. The title and description should say so. The title says "audio tapes", but the description says "MP3 audio CD." Reviews show that some buyers received CDs. I received tapes. If it matters to you, it will be best to ask the seller. Whichever format you get, it is a good introduction to all these cases. On the other hand the full oral arguments of all cases since 1955, including these, are at Oyez:com. That site highlights each paragraph of the transcript in yellow while the recording plays it, and lights up a photo of each justice as s/he speaks.

What you see is not what you hear. It said cassette tapes but, I received a book.

Fascinating look into The Warren Court and beyond. Sadly my CD player will not play MP3 CDs. Must find someone who can play the disc in their computer, do the conversion, then email me the MP3 files.Be sure you can play the disc before you buy.

I got through it only so far as to understand that Prof. Kaku wants the reader to see the pictures that Einstein used to think his way through the problems of relativity and to formulate his great theories. The professor even organized his book around those pictures. Unfortunately, and ironically, there are no pictures in the Kindle edition. None. Somehow, they got left out. So, don't buy the Kindle edition. That's it. Sigh, and I really, really wanted to read this book.

Michio Kaku writes this book with the same easy style as he's written his other books. He dumbs it down for you, but he never talks down to you. This no text book!Mr. Kaku doesn't bombard you with the terminology. Instead, when he introduces the terminology, theories or explanations to you he first explains the theory and then gives you a real-world comparison, enabling the reader to actually envision what's being explained. The explanation of the bending of space and time in a text book would warp some brain cells, right? Instant migraine. Not here! Mr. Kaku delivers the basic premise in such a manner with a real-world explanation, enabling the reader to not only "get it," but also to encourage and provoke the reader to want to know more.I could sit here all day and write about what I've learned about the Theory of Relativity and the Theory of Special Relativity and String Theory (or M Theory), but why not buy the book and read about it for yourself? Einstein's Cosmos is an engaging, quick read. It is a nice blend of biography and science, and it is written in Kaku's customary clear style. Kaku does a great job explaining some of Einstein's insights to nonspecialist readers, although in later chapters his explanations become less clear. Perhaps it is simply the case that explaining relativity theory is simpler than explaining attempts at unifying relativity and quantum mechanics. Overall, though, Einstein's Cosmos is a highly enjoyable read for the non-physicist.

Even tho Einstein's theories are now over a hundred years old, they are still the grail of physics. Just a few days ago, gravity waves were confirmed observing two black holes orbiting one another. I don't much understand relativity, but I understand quantum theory even less. What I enjoyed most in the book is the story of Einstein's personal struggles and cognitive supersedence over his dogmatic teachers, dissenting fellow academics and arrogant ignorant Nazis. All the while, maintaining his sense of humor.Humanity owes a great debt to this man. Without his moral guidance, we might not have survived 20th Century malevolence. Thank you, Albert. Hope you're riding your bicycle thru some wormhole.

Since some years ago I've been trying to find a Michio Kaku's book, I saw him in some tv and dvd documetaries and I was curious about his work. I bought this book and Parallel Worlds but I begun with this one. I read this book in less than a week, it's so interesting that I spent every time I had free time and even before going to bed. reading it.The central idea behind this book is Einstein's life and accomplishments, since his early years in school to his death. It begins with a short chapter which relates how the nature and physics was before Einstein's and how many of this ideas were usefull for his understand of the world. The book goes through his childhood, adolescence, matureness and death but also relates others physics work which was very usefull like Grossman, ShrÃ¶dinger, Plank, Isaac Newton and many others and not only explains Einsteins life, It explains every theory, like Newtonian Physic, Special Relativity, General Relativity, and Quantum Mechanics, String theory and M-Theory with great detail and accompanied with a simple and every day example who everyone can understand even if you are not familiarized with high level physics nor math.Finally the book closes with a summary of Einstein's legacy and how his (and others physicist work) have been very helpfull for our modern understanding of universe.If you are interested in cosmology, astronomy, physics, etc, I highly recommend you this book, I am now reading Parallel Worlds (...) from this same author and I will probably buy his other works.

After a quick read, the book seems to have sufficient information for you to plan and attempt the routes. A GPS point for the entrance or exit could be handy to ensure you at least begin in the same place the author intended. The Topomaps appear just sufficient, so a GPS coord to match the description to the map could be very usefulI'm a sucker for great photos, so it would have been great if there were more colour pictures, but I know that puts the price waaay up..Hope i get the chance to travel to Jordan soon to check these awesome looking canyons out!!

We only spent two days hiking in Wadi Rum. We ended up going guided because we didn't want to waste time searching. Good thing we did - the trail was completely unmarked and we would have never found our way. Still this book offered great information that supplemented our guide who spoke very little English.

I hiked for 3 days in the Jordanian Dead Sea Rift using a guide and this book. If I had known about this book (the guide loaned it to me), I would not have needed the guide. It is excellent and unlocks to all readers this amazing hiking area. My favorite hikes be far were the ones up the "wadis" (Canyons) -- cool narrow canyons where the trail is a clear, cool stream. I am eager to return to Jordan to hike many more of the described hikes. Best for the hikes along the Dead Sea Rift. Also has hikes near Petra and two at Wadi Rum. Wonderful book despite its steep price.

Most of the exploration literature about this amazing stretch of land was written in the 19th and early 20th century, and was devoted mainly to biblical archaeology and to geographic descriptions of desert expanses. It is only recently that numerous beauty spots are beginning to be revealed hidden in the darkness of the gorges amidst the spray of waterfalls, springs and hanging gardens - all exciting, but vulnerable places. If they were destined to be revealed, let it be in the way of Itai Haviv. The book's accurate route descriptions are accompanied by detailed maps, there is valuable practical and regional information and last but not least - dignity and love for humans, plants, animals and lands of the desert. Excerpts from early explorers literature flavor the text in appropriate locations and useful decorative sketches illustrate it. The book's layout is carefully planed creating an atmosphere which contributes to its content. Pleasant to browse through, it feels right in your hand, and you can definitely count on its reliability. (Eli Raz former manager of the Judean Desert field school in Ein Gedi and a BMC guide)

I recomend this book based on three routes I treked with my wife. The best one (as well as the longest one) was wadi Hassa (route 21 in the book), it is a wet and full of surprises two days walk.The pictures in the book are definitely encourage you to try more and more routes, and after two trips to Jordan, 5 day a time, we are only waiting to try the next wadis we did'nt walk through yet.

The only real full traveling book - Accurate and detailed route descriptions and information, topographical maps, satellite maps, colored photos and all in one, compact and very "user friendly" book. An absolute must for anyone traveling the region and the best guidebook that exists of Jordan.

As someone who was exploring Anglicanism, I was all but sold on the denomination. They recite the creeds, they held the sacrament of Eucharist in the perfect balance theologically, they allow for both a catholic and evangelism outlook. However, paedobaptism was the only think stopping be from fully jumping in.Thanks to Twitter and the wonderful site Anglican Pastor I was discovered Scot's book. From the very beginning something that caught my attention was that Scot came from a very strong credobaptist position to the position he now take of paedobaptism not only being the tradition view, but also the biblical view. Scot even uses the liturgy for the baptism service to teach about the theology of the event, makes the statement Lex Orandi, Lex Credendi (the law of prayer is the law of believing) truly a motto.I felt Scot did a wonderful job answering the questions asked of those subscribing to infant baptism. Scot argues his case mainly by saying while paedobaptists do believe that something happens during infant baptism, the church and family of the child are meant to be drawn into raising this child with Christ. From this point, Scot points to covenant theology to explain infant baptism as biblical. He makes a great point that religion for most of human history has not been an individual mindset, but a family/nation mindset. While we believe that faith is personal, we are as Christians are also commanded to "train up a child in the way he should go" (Proverbs 22:6).Scot does a good job of explaining a sacrament as something that is material ("ordinary" is the word Scot uses) that God uses to show us and bestow his spiritual grace. If we view baptism not as something we do, but something God does it changes not only how we view infant baptism but also how we who have been baptized as Adults view our baptism.

I serve as the priest at an Anglican Church Plant. This is a great resource for our context. It answers so many questions that many folks are asking. It is thorough, biblical, and nicely brief. Iâ€™m planning to do a Book Study of it for our church plant this Fall after reading through it. Grateful for resources like this that serve the Church!

This is a great book for those who grew up in traditions where infant baptism is the norm and for those where itâ€™s not. Short, sweet, and to the point McNight uses Scripture and the traditional idea of the Church as family to provide a provoking argument for infant baptism.

I grew up Methodist and was sprinkled as an infant. At the age of 17 I joined the Churches of Christ and was immersed in water as an act of believer's baptism. I also love Scot McKnight and his books and so this one quickly caught my interest.McKnight's approach to arguing in favor of infant baptism is unique for sure. As an Anglican he guides the reader through the Common Book of Prayer as if they were attending worship with him on a Sunday that a baptism was happening. The reader is able to take a deeper look into the liturgy and have a better understanding of why it is approached the way that it is.Near the end McKnight breaks from this in order to write about what the Bible teaches about baptism, and then to work to provide a scriptural case for infant baptism before returning to the liturgical baptism.Almost thou persuadest me, Scot. Almost. Scot focused primarily on covenants and the history of God bringing in not just one who receives the sign of the covenant (shown through circumcision) but how other males were also circumcised based on the faith of the patriarch whether slave or son, adult or infant. I think he makes a good point, and it's always bothered me how many Christians have raised their children as kids that have faith, participate in worship, confess, repent, and pray for forgiveness, and suddenly we tell them they need to get baptized and give their lives to Christ as if their lives so far have been a sham faith.Perhaps I'm just not "there" yet, but I wasn't convinced that baptism is equated with circumcision to the extent that it copies the act of bringing people into God's family based on the faith of a family leader. The argument that "households" would most likely have kids and so we should assume they infants were baptized is more of a leap for me than anything, and his use of 1 Corinthians 7:14 to argue infant baptism seems very out of context.That being said, I still highly recommend it. It prompted me to really consider what we do as a church that practices believers baptism to show that we care deeply about our children and helping them find their place within the family of God as early as possible.*I received a free copy from Netgalley for my honest review*
