About the Author
Sarah Simblet teaches at the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, Oxford University, and at the Royal College of Art in London. She has studied and worked extensively in Europe, and her drawings are in many national and private collections, and she has had three solo shows of her large-scale works. Sarah has also acted as a consultant for several radio and television programs, including the Discovery Channel. Photographer John Davis is renowned for his beautifully lit, strong images. He contributed to the acclaimed book Atlanta Dream, a collection of nude portraits of Olympic athletes.

Not one of my favorites! But I like the see through overlays - that's the only reason I'm giving this book 3 stars. Other than that - which is very unique - there's better information in other books (in my opinion).
There is so much to love about this book: the images and accompany text; the master classes; the translucent overlays; the gobs and gobs of poses and images to draw. My only criticism is that the variety of body types is low. While I understand that it helps to use young, slender models with low body percentage if you want to show the underlying anatomy, I have seen other books that do an excellent, and needed, job at showing how age/ gravity, and different amounts of body fat interact with the underlying skeleton and musculature.
As an aspiring artist, I own a few anatomy books and this is by far my favorite.I love how this book has high quality photos as well as clear, large diagrams that go with each bodily section.Other anatomy books I have either have really old, low-quality drawings of anatomy that are still useful but not aesthetically pleasing as this book.If you are an artist that wants a book with beautiful photos, explicit diagrams all organized, get this.I highly recommend this book to artists.
I used to sketch much more when I was in high school and fell away from it. I bought this book after viewing it at a Barnes and Noble store. As I rebuild my sketching skills, I hope that I can make use of it. The photography is superb, and as a student of biology, I appreciate how it teaches the sketcher to draw a model from the underlying structure outward.
My professor recomended tgis book and I love it. The transparent diagrams are really helpfully. Amazing deal for this type of book.
I bought this book several years ago and I still return to it regularly. I try to keep myself in the practice of drawing anatomy regularly, and a quick flip through this book to a random page and I'm off! From one minute sketches to 5 minute sketches this book is perfect. I also use it for more in depth studies, as the lighting on the bodies really helps to define the muscles.
scored this for cheap, been waiting to get it and it is an awesome addition to my collection. i did get it used and it had some nice lil scribbles from some former owner who sharpied the heck out of some pages (he had a thing for butts, drew on the butt pages some examples so bonus i guess) other than that super stoked. i know what i was getting used and i would buy this new if i didn't already have my copy.
While this is not the most interesting book in the world and definitely not the kind of thing I would choose to read in an idle Sunday afternoon, it is probably one of the most insightful that I have ever read. For someone who is trying to learn how to draw or even improve their skills, this book is awfully useful. It has lots of good reference images, excellent quality photos and excellent bone reference in beautiful translucent pages with the exact positioning according to the model posing. The reading... well, it's not fun, but the amount of information is great and very descriptive. When you finish reading the book, you will, at the very least, have a very good notion of the human anatomy and how it can affect your drawings.Excellent book to use as a reference. I'll definitely check this a couple of times when I'm drawing!
I bought this book when I took a figure drawing class, it was helpful in studying the bone and muscle structures. I enjoyed the transparent overlay pages and wished there was more of them! Overall it was helpful for my class and it will continue to be helpful as I continue as an artist.
